Size Of Networks
The work networks first thing capture our mind is a small room or hall of an office that all computer connect to each other. But if there is larger organization with more than on building or several building how they work together.
Network: As its definition to connect devices with each other for communication is called a network.
A network has different sizes a small room or building, a bank branch, an office, a home or more than one building that connect each other.
Subnetwork: If a network is part of large internetwork or a network that is a part of a larger network is called Subnetwork. For example in industry many department work together if marketing department require some information about client how it can be access to finance department. So if these (stock dept. and sales dept.) in our are subnetworks work for industry whole network. This is require because easy to configure or detect problems.
Segment: A segment is also a subnetwork but it is much smaller than subnetwork. In old days term "Collision Domain" used that is"a section connected by a shared medium in that packet are collide each other when they are sent". So a segment is new form of collision domain. In early days Ethernet used with coaxial cable and coaxial cable also called segment. A coaxial cable are shared to all devices and become a collision domain. In every Ethernet physical layer(OSI Model) decide which devices connected to segment and which segment is connected to each other.
Internetwork: It is larger structure network that contain other small networks. It will be differentiated with it design how devices are connected with each other or connected together.
